Volunteers support and supplement the work of our dedicated Park Maintenance staff by completing projects that may include spreading mulch, trimming limbs, weeding, trail maintenance, painting, litter cleanup, planting/landscaping and other maintenance tasks to enhance the beauty and safety of our Parks, Nature Preserves and Greenways.
*On this date, we welcome Volunteers from the Veterans Bridge Home team and their partners, who will complete PHASE II of "heavy" erosion control work at Latta Park in Dilworth, by helping with tasks which may include: hauling and setting coir logs; "dressing" the edges of pathways and sidewalks; spreading mulch, etc.
PARKING: Park in the lot located at 601 East Park Avenue, 28203 - park across from or close to the Outdoor Shelter (includes restrooms). Proceed to the project area as directed by Park & Recreation staff.
THANK YOU for choosing to Volunteer with Park & Recreation! Below are a few tips and reminders for a SAFE & PRODUCTIVE Volunteer experience:
- Wear long pants for protection from scratches.
- Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes – REQUIRED, NO sandals or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy.
- Wear heavy-duty work gloves - bring your own gloves for health and safety. Extras will be available.
- Wear a hat and sunscreen for protection from sun exposure; and your preferred bug spray, if needed.
- Face coverings are now optional, especially outdoors, when in the vicinity of other people. Please use your own judgment and respect others' space, understanding that there is still some risk regarding Covid.
- Use a large, refillable water bottle; to stay hydrated, avoid the need to refill, and to protect the environment from single-use plastic bottles. A water cooler for refilling will be available.
