Come help us clean up a neglected cemetery where Veterans and prominent Charlotte community leaders were laid to rest. Many family members have not been able to pay their respect to their loved ones due to the lack of up-keep of the cemetery due to ownership issues.
This event has flexible times and there is no time commitment required. Come and do what you can within volunteer hours. Bring a friend to the
Park at L.C. Coleman Neighborhood Park (1501 McDonald St, Charlotte, NC 28216) and walk to the cemetery.
DO NOT PARK at University Park Creative Arts School.
Who: open to all volunteers, no age restrictions however all children must be accompanied/managed by her/his/their own parents/guardians
Attire: close toed shoes, be prepared for the elements/weather that day
50 volunteers needed
Volunteer activities will including trash pick up; vegetation removal; head stone location and identification; and logistics
- Wear long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes – REQUIRED, NO sandals or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy.
- Wear heavy-duty work gloves
- Wear a hat and sunscreen for protection from sun exposure, if needed – even on a chilly day!
- Face coverings are optional, especially outdoors, when in the vicinity of other people.
- Bring your own water in a refillable water bottle; to stay hydrated, avoid the need to refill, and to protect the environment from single-use plastic bottles.
For those interested in some pre-event coffee, Archive CLT has drinks and snacks available and opens at 8am. Join us and support a local, African American, woman-owned business.
